Splitcoast’s Dare to Get Dirty 08′

Published by Jerri Kay at 8:33 am under Challenges, Flourishes

During the Dare To Get Dirty week over at Splitcoast a few weeks ago (I know, I’m sorry, I’m terribly behind, but I’m trying to get caught up  . . . LOL), my dear friend and Dirty Dozen partner, Christine, hosted a watercolor challenge and asked me to design a sample card.  It was my pleasure to participate in Christine’s challenge.   I was very honored to also be asked by my very good friend Kittie to design a card for her scene challenge.  The images used on the card I did for Kittie’s challenge are Kittie’s Cause a Scene stamps by Rubbernecker.  Check them out, they’re a must have, even if you don’t watercolor or want to do scenes, each kit comes with plenty of stamps perfect for cardmaking.  The cobblestones stamp is from Art Impressions.

Recently I’ve been struggling with feelings I have concerning a friend who has been wronged.  I think we’ve all been there, someone who is dear to us is hurting and we feel anger towards the perpetrator.  I’d like to share with you a devotional from a wonderful book I have entitled Promises From God For Women.

We so easily fail when it comes to one of Jesus’ most important commandments: to love our neighbor.  Loving the people who love you isn’t always all that easy, but to wish those people who annoy you well seems like too much to ask.  No one likes to come off second best, and usually we are quite indignant when we do.  Because we are only human, we find it virtually impossible to bless those who have persecuted us.  And yet the Lord asks it of us.  Jesus was willing to pray for and bless the people who persecuted Him time and again.  Even on the cross He asked God to forgive His persecutors.  This is impossible if you are not a child of God.  It is only He who can enable you to conquer your innate selfish nature and to love and bless those people for whom you feel no love.”

I’ll be working on the butterfly tutorial when I return from taking my son to Tennessee in mid-August.  My plans are to start the tutorials in September.  - Have a wonderful day!

Hi Jerri Kay …. I love visiting your blog to see your beautiful watercolor works of art (btw you’ve encouraged me to pull out some Me and Carrie Lou stamps I hadn’t used for over 6 years and I’ve also ordered more through Violette’s recently …. love them). I also love to read your inspirational thoughts.

I was so sorry to hear of the loss of your little niece and your pastor and his son. So much deep pain at one time …. but I can tell that you’ve taken your wounded heart to Jesus for His healing.

I enjoyed the devotional you shared today concerning loving our neighbors. Currently, I’ve begun daily prayers for a few difficult people in my life. I am praying 3 Bible passages. What I do is insert their names in these scripture passages and pray God’s Word back to Him. The passages are Ephesians 1:17-23, Ephesians 3:14-20 and Colossians 1:9-14. I am beginning to feel real compassion for these individuals as I pray God’s blessings on them. These difficult people may not change anytime soon … but already God has changed me for the better!

In Matthew 5:44 Jesus said ….”But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you”

Hi, Jerri!! Well, you KNOW how I feel about your watercolor creations — they take my breath away each and every time!!! This striking watercolored card is no exception — LOVE the black ribbon accent — so pretty!!! And your Kittie Card is FABULOUS!!!! Just love your inviting little scene and that stone/brick on the ground is really great — love that!!! And I’m so sorry to hear about your friend, but thank you for your devotional, once again. It is always a blessing to run across God’s word interjected into our daily stops!!! Please continue with this subtle, yet effective, ministry — much appreciated!!!!

Jerri ~ of course, I can always say that your artwork is stunning! But as to your devotional…man you hit home with me on that one…I have a couple of people at work that annoy the dickens out of me and I usually just try to avoid them…Your words were a “light bulb” moment for me and I will pray for them. Thanks Whole Bunches :)
